Hydroponic Kits – A Valuable Kit for Hydroponic Starters
Growing plants in unnatural conditions seems impossible but since the technique of hydroponics has come into existence, it has made this impossible task possible. Rising demand for growing hydroponics has lead to the emergence of Hydroponics Kits. These kits contain everything you need to grow hydroponically from the beginning to the end. If you are going to buy one for yourself, bear the following points in mind:
Hydroponics Systems – In the selection of Hydroponics Kits, first decide what variety of plants you want to grow and then buy the kit. There are six types of hydroponics systems commonly used which include – Wick System, NFT System, Flood and Drain, Drip System, Aeroponics System and Passive System. Hence, you have to select the kit after deciding which system is appropriate to grow the plant you have chosen.
Grow Lights – Water, Carbon Dioxide and Sunlight are the three elements, which plants needed to prepare food, but in indoor gardening, instead of sunlight artificial lights are used. There are three kinds of grow lights that are mostly used – Fluorescent, Incandescent and High Density Discharge Lights. High Density Discharge lights are used in hydroponics at commercial level.
Nutrients & Additives – Just as a human body needs various kinds of elements to grow properly similarly plants need two kinds of nutrients – Macronutrients and Micronutrients. Macronutrients constitute Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium while other nutrients come under micronutrients. The hydroponics kits contain both kinds of nutrients.
Carbon Dioxide Release System – In an enclosed area, plants absorb carbon dioxide quite rapidly and if they do not get the right amount of it, their growth gets retarded. Therefore, an external source is needed to maintain carbon dioxide at a certain level. The hydroponics Kits usually contain equipments that provide carbon dioxide from outside.
Growing Medium – Growing mediums provide the base to the roots of the plants. They function in the same way as soil functions in conventional gardening or you can say they are the substitute of soil. Unlike soil they do not provide nutrients to plants and mainly hold the roots. The hydroponics kits contain the following mediums – Rockwool, Perlite, Vermiculite, and Coconut Fibers.
Pest Control – Spraying to control pests at right time is essential. With the change of season, diseases of various kinds spread among plants. The hydroponics kits generally contain pest controls but you need to consult the right person for the right kinds of pest controls.
In the end the hydroponics kits are designed to help the hydroponic starter in every respect but none of the kit is complete in itself because the requirements of plants change with the seasons.
